Foundayo (orforglipron) is a fundamentally different kind of GLP-1 medication. Clinical Results: ATTAIN Program

The FDA approval was based on two Phase 3 trials:

ATTAIN-1 enrolled 3,127 adults with obesity or overweight (without diabetes). At 72 weeks, participants on the highest dose achieved approximately 12.4% body weight reduction, compared to 0.9% on placebo.

ATTAIN-2 enrolled 1,600+ adults with obesity/overweight plus type 2 diabetes. Orforglipron met the primary endpoint of superior weight reduction vs. placebo, with additional improvements in A1C.

ATTAIN-MAINTAIN showed that Foundayo can maintain weight loss in patients who had previously plateaued on injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide — making it a potential step-down option from injectables to an oral maintenance therapy.

It's less ideal for patients who want maximum weight loss (injectable tirzepatide at 20%+ still leads the field) or those for whom cost is the primary driver and compounded options remain accessible through verified providers.

Within four months, the market went from zero oral GLP-1 options for weight loss to two — with distinctly different practical profiles. This competition is driving accessibility: both manufacturers priced at $149 starter to compete directly, and both are included in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.
