THE IMPORTANT CONTEXT

The important distinction

FDA-approved products undergo agency review for safety and effectiveness. Compounded versions do not. Ask what pharmacy dispenses your prescription, why compounding is clinically necessary, and which regulations apply.

Read FDA guidance ↗

Before a purchase or enrollment

Ask whether the medication is FDA-approved or compounded.
Confirm clinician and dispensing-pharmacy credentials.
Verify current costs, shipping and refill terms.
Ask how adverse effects and questions are handled.

REGULATORY CONTEXT
